7-Year Old Girl Dies in Border Patrol Custody

A 7-year old has died in border patrol custody. The girl from Guatemala was illegally crossing into the United States via Mexico with her family and other migrants. They went on a dangerous trek to the border to attempt to cross into the US. But eventually, they turned themselves in at a border station in New Mexico. The girl had reportedly not eaten or drank for several days. The father told border patrol that the girl was healthy at first by an application. But the problem was that the application was in English. The father spoke Spanish. So it’s unclear whether or not the father was aware of what the application was asking. After more than 8 hours, the girl started having seizures. She was taken to a hospital in El Paso, Texas by helicopter. At the hospital, she went into cardiac arrest. The doctors were able to “revive” her. She never recovered from that and passed away 24 hours later.
