A Mass Shooting In Florida Leaves 5 People Dead

On Tuesday, a gunman in Sebring, Florida shot and killed 5 people at a SunTrust bank. Local officials have said that a SWAT team was called in to deal with the gunman. The gunman finally surrendered to law enforcement after the arrival of the SWAT team. The shooting caused a highway near the bank to completely close. CNN reports that nearby hospitals have said that they have not received any patients from the shooting. The five people who were killed in the attack have not been identified yet. The suspect has been identified as 21 year-old Zephen Xaver.

“This is a terrible day for Sebring, Highlands County and for the state of Florida.” said Ron DeSantis, the Governor of Florida. “Casey and I extend our most sincere condolences and sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims. The people of Florida stand with the community of Sebring.”

There have been 19 mass shootings in 2019 so far. This equals to 0.82 mass shootings per day. Five of those 19 mass shootings have occured in Florida.
