Authorities Seize 1.7 Tons Of Meth At A Seaport

Updated: Feb 10, 2019

On Thursday, a whopping 1.7 tons of meth was confiscated at the Los Angeles/Long Beach seaport. However, the meth wasn’t the only drug confiscated at the seaport. Along with the 3,810 pounds of methamphetamine, there were 11.5 pounds of heroin and 55.9 pounds of cocaine located in the shipment that the drugs were confiscated from.

The various drugs in the shipments were confiscated by U.S. and Australian officials that had worked together in the joint drug bust to find the drugs. Special agent for Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Joseph Macias stated in an interview that, "There's no question that the criminal organization behind this scheme has been dealt a significant blow.”

According to Macias, there is an unknown organization behind this massive drug shipment. If the shipment hadn’t been stopped, thousands of pounds of drugs would have been released into the United States.

Six people have been arrested for the scheme already. The criminals arrested are made up of 2 Americans and 4 Australians, which is why both the U.S. and Australia were involved in seizing the shipment.
