Bernie Sanders is set to announce his run for President in the upcoming 2020 election. Two sources who have knowledge of Sanders’ plan told Yahoo News on Friday that Sanders will soon be unveiling his campaign.
“He’s already talking to staff and there are people he’s hiring. They’re nailing down contracts with vendors. All the movement is there for him to run,” revealed one source.
Bernie Sanders will be entering a very competitive battle for the Democratic Nomination. He will be competing with the likes of Elizabeth Warren, Tulsi Gabbard, Kamala Harris, and Julian Castro. Beto O’Rourke and Joe Biden could also announce their campaigns sometime in the future. Sanders has an advantage over these candidates because he still has supporters he gained from the 2016 election.
Sanders previously ran for President back in 2016. His campaign got a lot of attention and he had many supporters. Although Sanders was an independent, he ran for the Democratic Nomination. Sanders didn’t get the nomination in the end, but support for him continued after the election. This support after the election has led him to seriously consider another run.
Bernie Sanders is a self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist. He is pushing for many left-wing policies such as Universal Health Care, a $15 minimum wage, and high taxes on the rich. If he were to become president, there is a good chance that we would see some of these policies go into effect.
