On Saturday night, a tsunami struck the Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java. The tsunami came without any warning. Scientists say it was caused by landslides occurring in a volcanically active area. The tsunami killed at least 280 people and injured over 1000. The tsunami hit when Indonesian pop band “seventeen” were playing on stage. The band was performing at a beach in the Sunda Strait when a wave burst through the stage. Two of the band members were later confirmed dead and four other band members are still missing. Fourteen other people attending the event were also declared dead and 89 other people who attended the event are still missing. The tsunami coincidentally came at a similar time of year that the 2004 Indian tsunami did, which killed over 120,000 in Indonesia.
