Morning Consult has released a new poll for the 2020 Democratic nomination. In the poll, Joe Biden was the most popular candidate with 33% of respondents saying that he is the best choice for the Democrats. Biden is 8 points ahead of the second most popular candidate, who is Bernie Sanders. This isn’t good news for Biden because he had a 10 point lead the last time Morning Consult released a poll for the Democratic nomination. Beto O’Rourke and Kamala Harris are tied for third place with them being the best candidate for 8% of the respondents.
Only two candidates changed their polling numbers compared to the previous poll. As previously mentioned, Joe Biden’s popularity declined by 2 points. The other candidate who had a change in polling numbers was Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend. His number in the polls increased by 1%. Buttigieg’s popularity has surged over the past few weeks. The number of people who have answered Buttigieg has their top choice in the poll has tripled since Morning Consult's poll conducted 2 weeks ago.
