Recently, a scam has been uncovered surrounding college admissions in Boston. It has been revealed that actresses Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman were a part of a group of around fifty members trying to bribe and cheat into colleges like Yale and Stanford. The people involved in this scandal paid a test prep organization to help students cheat on admission tests or correct their answers. The parents in this scheme are accused of paying $25 million dollars to admissions consultant, William Singer, since February 2011.
The FBI investigated this scandal (called Operation Varsity Blues) and charged 33 parents with bribery. Singer is charged with bribery and helping students cheat on the SAT and ACT. Loughlin agreed to "pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew," according to prosecutors.
