Microsoft has released on a new update that will be detrimental to those that still use Windows 7. Windows 7 is a popular OS, with around 40% of the market using it. The update sends a warning to all Windows 7 users stating that Microsoft will no longer be supporting security updates starting on January 14, 2020.
Microsoft has been supporting Windows 7 since 2009, and still continued support for a while when Windows 10 was released. The reason that Microsoft is no longer supporting security updates for Windows 7 is that it wants all of the users to switch to its latest version of Windows.
There have also been other attempts from Microsoft to get users to switch to Windows 10, such as when they were allowing people to upgrade for free for several months. While security updates will be stopped for most editions of Windows 7, those that use the enterprise version will have the choice to pay extra in order to receive security updates until 2023. Even though Windows 7 will no longer be receiving support, Windows 8 will still be getting security updates for several more years.
