Today it was announced that North Carolina will hold a new election for a new representative in Congress in District 9. The reason for this is the Republican candidate who was already elected was facing evidence that he took part in an illegal get-out-the-vote effort. The candidate called for a new election after. The North Carolina State Board of Elections unanimously voted on the new election and it passed. Mark Harris, the previous Republican candidate, said, “It’s become clear to me that the public’s confidence in the Ninth District’s general election has been undermined to an extent that a new election is warranted.” This statement from Harris shows that the Republicans have failed in their attempt to stop a new vote from taking place in the 9th District of North Carolina.
Harris still claims that he did not take part in any illegal activity but a new witness, L. Mcrae Dowless Jr, claims that Harris completed and collected absentee ballots, which in the State of North Carolina are counted as illegal. Unfortunately, Dowless has chosen not to testify for the Board of Elections.
It is expected that North Carolina will not have any representative in Congress for several months and Harris also hasn’t said if he plans to run again to represent North Carolina’s 9th District
