The US National Debt Reached 22 Trillion for the First Time

Updated: Feb 15, 2019

The United States Debt just reached over 22 Trillion dollars for the first time in United States History. That ads up to around 135,000 dollars per taxpayer. That is a lot, considering the Average American wealth is about 44,900 dollars, and most 18-21-year-olds have $0 in savings.

I doubt that we will ever pay our National debt off, but there have been some ideas on how to pay it off. One idea is to reduce military spending, although, with the current government, I doubt that will happen. Reducing government spending is a hard thing to do since someone will always say that we should not reduce spending in that area. Well, of course, except for the libertarians.

People will get mad if taxes go up, but they get fewer services. Some have jokingly suggested selling Montana to Canada. The only way that might work is by reducing government spending and raising taxes. It will be hard, but in the long run, it will be better for us.

We will see if the president will release a statement and if any plans will be made to tackle this debt.
