On Saturday, Donald Trump announced over Twitter that he will be delaying his plan, which will deport illegal immigrants, by two weeks. The delay was put in place because he wants to see if the two parties can mitigate migration from the southern border.
“At the request of Democrats, I have delayed the Illegal Immigration Removal Process (Deportation) for two weeks to see if the Democrats and Republicans can get together and work out a solution to the Asylum and Loophole problems at the Southern Border,” Trump said over twitter. “If not, Deportations start!”
Illegal immigration has recently become more of a hot topic. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently compared ICE detention facilities to concentration camps.
“The U.S. is running concentration camps on our southern border, and that is exactly what they are,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a livestream. “If that doesn’t bother you ... I want to talk to the people that are concerned enough with humanity to say that ‘never again’ means something.”
Ocasio-Cortez was met with heavy criticism from conservatives for her remarks.
