Trump Says Football Is Too Rough For His Son, But Also Says Concussion Rules Are "Too Soft"

Updated: Feb 5, 2019

On Saturday, Donald Trump stated that he thinks football is too dangerous.

“I just don't like the reports that I see coming out having to do with football—I mean, it's a dangerous sport and I think it's— I— it's— really tough,” Trump stated in an interview with CBS. The President also made it clear that he won't let Barron, his youngest son, play the game.

“So, you know I -- I hate to say it because I love to watch football. I think the NFL is a great product, but I really think that as far as my son -- well, I've heard NFL players saying they wouldn't let their sons play football. So it's not totally unique, but I -- I would have a hard time with it." The President’s comments are unusual considering he has previously stated that football is "too soft like the rest of America" when discussing concussion rules. So Football is too rough for his Son, but too Soft for everyone else. My issue is not that he doesn't want his son playing football, it is that he has been a massive hypocrite during this situation. I respect his decision to not let his son play football, but he should not also make statements saying that football is "too soft".
